It's always been this way. I never get to wear what I want. I can be a prep. That's probably it. Shop at abercrombie, american eagle, holliter co, and other stores like that. I don't feel like that's who I am. I feel like clothing is a way of expressing one's self. I don't mind being labeled as long as I get to pick it. For awhile now I've felt like going scene. Not because I think it's cool. Because I want to dress like that regardless of what people say. It's also because I love music and myspace. I want a scene haircut because it looks really cute. My parents would probably let me do that but where should I shop? My parents aren't going to let me shop at hot topic. I didn't ask him. I jus' know it fersure. They won't let me wear make up till i'm 16. And that's light make up.

I know how much it sucks to be forced to conform and not be able to show your individuality.

Try and ask them why they think your appearance matters so much.

Tell them how appearance isn't what matters, its the person that matters and as long as they see you are a good person, with good grades and stays out of trouble, they shouldn't care what clothes you wear.

Let them know that they are making you believe that appearance does matter, when it's whats on the inside that truly does.

Maybe you could try and change gradually, buy something here and there and then put it together later, in the long run, to make the look you want.

P.S. great stores besides Hot Topic that aren't completely prep are Wet Seal, Rue 21, Ross, Pacsun, Gadzooks. They may seem prep at first, but if you take the time to snoop around you can find some really unique things.

Well..I think your only choice is to try talking to them since there isn't really much you can do while your living with them. And you can't really lose much since your not aloud to do anything anyways. At least even if they shoot you down, now they know it's something you want and might start thinking about it. Make sure you know what your gonna say and just explain to them how you wanna be...you.

How old are you? First of all. My family had the same rules for me. Truthfully I stuck it out..they had more respect for me for doing so. They had respect for the fact that I listened to them, and didn't talk back about it. I waited until I was 16 to wear make up...buy my own clothes without approval and date. So it was tough. But I had more respect for myself as well. I would suggest that if you can't wait at all. Sit your parents down and ask if you can at least wear masquera, and neutral shadows..then subscribe yourself or have a friend to a clothing magazine like Alloy. They have scene clothes without the threatening appearence of Hot Topic. Show your parents what you like in there..and say well they actually have something similar at Hot topic..that will get you in the door.

Other then that...don't push your luck. All they want is your respect..and in return you will have their respect which in the end is very important. Good luck hun.

I guess just try to reason with them and try to shop places that sell a variety of clothing and dont overwhelm them with all of it at once. Like get a haircut, then clothes, and so on slowly.

But just think about this: If your parents won't let you wear makeup until you are 16 (and only light that is), then maybe you shouldn't go scene, because the scene crowd (girls mainly) wear dark, sometimes heavy, makeup. Being a prep, you could work with light makeup. And scene kids shop at Front Clothing, and other related stores.

Just know that this is what you want to do.
